system upgrade

Im currently running a quad core q6600 at 2.4 ghz with a 1gig of ram, an ati radeon HD 2400 pro, 320gig HDD (split over 2 LOL), windows vista (again not my decision) and the other doodads. Aspire m5630 is the model i bought, i actually got it as a present for xmas from my sister. im pretty pleased with it tho it does have some major defeciences in terms of gaming power. Now my first ploy will be to upgrade ram, prolly just hit 2gigs maybe even go 4gigs but i dnt think i need that much. Wat can you guys guys recommend in terms of a new graphics card. Im more interested in being able to play starcraft2 at the kind of quality i want to, but i am a uni student so price is a major factor 4 me. Ive been browsing thru U-Mart, but i dnt really know much about graphics anymore, im a bachelor in IT at the moment specialising in software engineering, so my lack of knowledge on hardware is a little shaming lol. Anyways thanks 4 ur help in advance.

Go to MSY, most likely cheapest, and any 1 gig stick of ram will do, unless you have 2 sticks of 512, then get a 2 gig kit and replace yours. Graphics card, you can get an 8800GT or HD3870 from msy for $240, prob the best choice for cheap and yet powerful. id recommend the 8800GT. $50 - $60 for the RAM from MSY, $300 in total, nice and cheap.

Indeed im 100% certain its 2x512mb lol, it is acer after all, i cant imagine them using intelligent design principles. Thats why my first priority was to get a 2 gig stick with a higher frequency, not only 4 gaming but 4 damned vista, its a darn drain on all system resources. So you recommend the 8800GT. Just out of curiousity wat is the differnt between the different model types in GeForce (such as GS and GT and LS). THanks 4 the advice.

Well from what I've seen it goes
Ultra > GTX > GTS > GT > GS (not sure about LS but sounds like it'll go lower that GS)
8800gt is a damn good card but if you want to just play SC2 I'd say check out a 512mb HD3850, it runs cooler that the 8800. 2GB would be enough unless you do film editing etc.

HD3850 might have the same problem as my 3870, fan always running at 80%, but prob not. A 9600 GT is now the same price range and better perfromance than an 8800GT, so id now recommend that, and also no higher than 800MHz ram, no real use going faster it wont really be used. I have the corsair xms2 bundle, oldie but a goodie. i have 2 gig for vista, and as it is nearly all used whenever i play Team Fortress 2, i think it might be worth 3 gig or 4 for better performance, and no reply about vista not detecting it, i know and i know trhe reason for it, dont say im a noob, i know what im doing, well all go 64-bit eventually so dont even try.

Lol well vista is sold on every comp now if u buy a package. u dnt really hvea choice. It has some nice features, but overall its a joke. just has glitz but not glamour. I dnt really need any more then 2 gigs, coz i only really use my comp for programming and gaming.

XPs will suffer their primative BSODs when acquiring viruses. Whilst like some computer games, viruses are not made for macs.

I recently upgraded to windows 7 and noticed that now the system control manager doesnt work anymore. Is their new software out for it and do I really need it? Because it think all it controled were the little modes you can put your computer in.
